Abstrakt
Teoria inteligentnego projektu jest ogólną teorią rozpoznawania projektu. Osiąga ten cel dzięki poszukiwaniu kryteriów, które odróżniają wytwory inteligencji od wytworów „ślepej” przyrody (konieczności i przypadku). Teoria ewolucji jest teorią powstawania życia i różnych jego form. Konflikt między tymi teoriami pojawia się tylko dlatego, że kryteria rozpoznawania projektu sprawdzające się w obszarze wytworów człowieka wydają się wykrywać projekt także poza tym obszarem (na przykład niektóre układy biochemiczne wewnątrz komórki). Najbardziej znana odmiana teorii ewolucji wyklucza jednak inteligentne pochodzenie takich struktur, które pojawiły się przed powstaniem człowieka. Wynik rywalizacji między dwiema teoriami najskuteczniej rozsądza test zwany experimentum crucis. Jest to eksperyment, który potwierdza jedną teorię, a odrzuca drugą. Taki test da się przeprowadzić. Jest nim poszukiwanie życia w kosmosie, a zwłaszcza życia inteligentnego, czyli cywilizacji kosmicznych, gdyż przewidywania obu rywalizujących teorii różnią się w tej kwestii. W artykule przedstawiona jest analiza wyników badań dotyczących kanałów na Marsie, meteorytu marsjańskiego ALH84001 i fosforowodoru w górnej atmosferze Wenus. Następnie omawiane są spekulacje i fakty na temat istnienia inteligentnych cywilizacji we Wszechświecie. W konkluzji stwierdzono, że aktualne dane empiryczne są zgodne z przewidywaniami teorii inteligentnego projektu, a nie z przewidywaniami darwinowskiej
teorii ewolucji.
